Holding on to God’s promises in challenging Times

Genesis 17:1-10
Romans 4:16-25

We don’t have to only watch the news in order to know that the world is in a crisis. We feel it in our own lives. I know personally people in our congregation who have been laid off or lost their homes, their savings, and retirement and with that many relationships are rocky due to the anxiety created by these situations. For some of us, we can’t see beyond the current situation, it is almost impossible! So where should we turn to in moments like these? I would suggest that we turn to our foundational story. The Hebrew and the Christian story is seemingly an impossible story. May be in such moments, it would do us good to turn to our foundational story for inspiration and hope. Our foundational story claims that a miracle from God is what made our story possible. In the New Testament, the apostle Paul used this story as a reference to make a point about God. This God in whom Israel believes and we believe, “gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist” (V. 17). This is GOOD NEWS!!!
